Maple Class 2019 - 2020

Miss Monks

I am delighted to have joined the team at Whitegate as the class teacher of Maple! Having taught previously down South, it's lovely to be back local and starting a new adventure with Year 1. In Maple we see each day as an opportunity to learn while having fun. It's place where we can learn from mistakes and celebrate each other's successes. Outside of school I enjoy being part of a drama group and looking after my many plants.

As part of our 'One Unselfish Act' we are collecting plastic bottle caps to create a piece of art work to raise awareness of plastic in our oceans. Please save your bottle caps and bring them into school. Thank you!

Prodigy Maths: Each child has their own username and password stuck into their reading diaries. Prodigy is an online maths game personalised by Miss Monks and linked the UK National Curriculum. This will be updated as we cover each topic in maths.

Homework: Maths at home. Helping children understand the importance of maths outside of school.
Books to be collected in on Wednesday 28th November and will go back out on Friday 30th November.

Maple Homework:

  • Maths Whizz! Maths homework will be stuck in books every 2 weeks.
  • Reading Champions! Please read with your child 4 times a week and sign in their diary. Children are expected to change their own reading books in an afternoon. If they are unsure of this, please prompt your child to ask an adult in class to explain again.
  • Spelling Superstars! Every Friday we will have a small spelling test.
  • Delving into the Ocean! Every week, please choose an element off this sheet and explore in your own way. For example, make an art DIY, research on the internet, find a related book in the library, write some sentences using the key vocab, draw a picture, etc.
