This term, we are explorers adventuring into the world of toys!
Welcome back Maple! This term we will be explorers.....entering into the world of toys! We will be learning all about the exciting history of toys. We will explore Weaver Hall Museum and write recounts of our adventures there. We will also get to make our very own toy cars and then write down instructions to help other people make their own! Most of our writing will be inspired by the wonderful story, Major Glad, Major Dizzy.
Reading plays a fundamental part in all areas of the Maple curriculum. Over the year, we will immerse ourselves in high quality texts which will help to drive our learning. In class we have access to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books which we are able to use not only within our Guided Reading sessions, but also when appropriate in our curriculum lessons to support our learning. Each term we have a spotlight author who has been chosen for their high-quality texts. Over the course of the term we will have to opportunity to listen to, read and learn more about these fantastic authors. Having this literacy-rich enviroment will encourage a positive culture of reading within our class and promote the children's enjoyment of reading.

Children who have not read at home will do so at playtime. We balance the right to play with the right to learn to read and keep up with their peers.
🏠 Homework: Homework is uploaded on a Friday and due in the following Wednesday. Homework will be uploaded for each student via School Spider. Your child's login username and password is in their reading record. We have provided a document you can download below with instructions on how to use School Spider. Thank you.
✏️ Handwriting: At Whitegate we teach precursive handwriting. Please support your child in doing this when they are writing at home. To help with this, please see the sound chart below.
📖 Spellings: On the homework area on School Spider you will find the updates and changes to Maple spellings, thank you.
