Our school curriculum is designed to comply with the requirements of the Education Reform Act (1988), which introduced the National Curriculum.

There are five stages that cover the education system, three of these are covered in primary school: the Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 (5-7 years old) and Key Stage 2 (7-11 years old). The subjects (revised in 2014) which make up the curriculum at the primary stage are: English, Mathematics, Science, Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, Languages/Foreign Language, Geography, History, Music and  Physical Education (PE).

In line with Government recommendations, we will be teaching our children a broad and balanced curriculum that provides breadth and depth within each subject and provides children with the opportunity to work at a 'Mastery' level in each subject.  At Whitegate School we ensure that each child receives the education that will enable them to reach their full potential.

Our varied, Christian based curriculum inspires pupils' thirst for knowledge and promotes a love of life-long learning in a creative, challenging and safe environment.  At Whitegate School we aim to aid pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as promoting British values and encouraging pupils' aesthetic and creative interests. By doing so, we hope to produce well rounded, independent individuals ready for the next steps in their lives.

When planning for learning at Whitegate School, we aim to develop skills so that the children become:

  • active listeners;
  • independent learners;
  • creative problem solvers; and
  • coherent speakers
