Governor Profiles

Mrs Teresa Finney

I have had a long association with the school, as all three of my boys attended Whitegate Church of England Primary School over a period of 12 years. I am a committed Christian and the Children’s Worker for St. Mary’s & St. Peter’s Churches, so work closely with the school as part of the Ministry Team to continue to strengthen the links between the school and the church.

Before becoming a mum I was an Architectural Technician, working in private practice and the Local Authority, latterly in the department that dealt with Church of England Primary Schools. These are valuable skills in managing the upkeep, maintenance and any further building projects the school may wish to undertake.

Whitegate school holds a place very close to my heart, and I want to work to help make sure that it can be the best school it can be, and to give opportunities for all the children in our school community to thrive educationally, socially, emotionally and spiritually, learning about the love the of God.

Mr Ian Roberts

I am passionate about supporting Whitegate school staff and pupils. I have been a parent governor for 4years and am now a foundation governor (linked through our Church, St Mary’s Church)

I have a few areas that I have an interest in, one being communication with parents. I would like to develop further the communication links between parents and school. I'm also passionate about developing our pupils’ emotional resilience. . My last passion is e-safety. All three of my areas are areas I would like to develop further in school. All three are areas that I have experience in and would use my experience in that area.

I have worked in the NHS for approximately 30 years, training as a psychiatric nurse initially but now as a mental health psychotherapist (family psychotherapy and psychodrama) working with children and families. I currently work within the Cheshire West and Chester area, and work with colleagues in health service as well as local authority.

Rev Canon

Chris Humphries

I was delighted to be appointed as Vicar of the Parish of Whitegate in 2014, especially knowing that it has a Church School that is popular with parents and children, and well regarded within the community. Having been a Junior school teacher myself, I am keen to take an active part within the school, particularly in leading assemblies on a regular basis.

The link between church and school is an important one to cherish and develop. Along with the Head teacher, I aim to encourage visits to St Mary’s church for monthly “Family Worship” assemblies, and class visits for various projects. It is important that the children feel that it is the church where they feel at home and have a strong sense of belonging.

In a church “Aided” school, the Christian faith should underpin the essential purpose and activity of the school. The truth of the Christian message is taught and practised, giving confidence to the whole school community in living out the love of Jesus Christ in today’s world. It is my belief that this is the best possible preparation the children can have, both to help them learn and achieve academically, and to give them the gift of a faith and ethos that will serve them well as they grow up.

Mrs Linda Pinda

As a retired Primary School teacher with an emphasis on early years, I felt I would like to offer my experience in education by becoming a governor of Whitegate C of E Primary School. I previously was a staff governor for 10 years at a local Primary School.

Mr Howard Davies

I was appointed a PCC governor on 11/3/2014 with a term of office until 11/3/2018. I have no conflict of interest in my role as governor.

I am chair of finance committee, which is a position I held previously in my term as governor at Hebden Green Special school.

My experience whilst being employed in the accountancy profession has given me a good understanding of finance matters to enable me to chair the finance committee of the school.

I was Director of a local company for many years which gave me experience in management and personnel.

I have lived in this area all my life and am married with two children and five grandchildren. My two daughters were both educated at Whitegate school.

I have been a member of local organisations for many years and was treasurer of the Vale Royal Multiple Sclerosis Society.

It is an exciting time at Whitegate school at the moment as we not only have a new Head teacher but also a new school hall. I look forward to seeing the schools progression in the future.

Mrs Kerry Williams

I joined the team as a DBE foundation governor on 12/11/2015. I have a long family history with the school and the church, being a former pupil of Whitegate myself, I have a son in year 1 and my older son who is 12 also went to Whitegate school. I am pleased to support our school management team in ensuring all our pupils reach their full potential. I feel strongly about strengthening the links between church and school and I think both can play a significant roll in enriching each other’s worship and spiritual life. I am a member of the finance team and bring my knowledge of finance and accounting from my commercial activities.

Mrs Kerry Davies

I have been a staff governor at Whitegate for 3 years. My term of office as a governor is for four years, which ends in 2017. I am currently on the Premises committee that focuses on building and health and safety. Last school year I attended 3 out of 3 Full Governors meetings.

I have been a teacher for 19 years and have worked at Whitegate School for 17 of those years. I teach Year 1 and 2 and coordinate Computing and Music. I love the family feel of our school and enjoy watching the progress that children make as they move through the year groups.

My role as staff governor gives me an opportunity to build links between the governing body and the staff of the school.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to music and spending quality time with my family.

Ms Lydia Naylor

I have always had a keen interest in the school due to my Mother teaching at the school for many years. I see myself as a member of the St. Mary's as this is my family's church. I am a deputy Headteacher of the local Church of England High School and believe I have the skills gained from working within education and being part of other primary school governing bodies to help continue to develop the school further.

Mr Kemper Booher

Almost 7 years ago, I began my term as governor with the primary objective of getting our much needed school hall built. To do this we have had to build our new school playground to release the hall land, put in place various legal agreements, appoint new design consultants, design the hall and achieve planning, as well as raise project funding. Both projects have now been successfully completed, in what has been a long and complex process, but will positively transform the way the school operates into the future. During this time I also instigated our efforts to achieve feeder schools status with Hartford and Tarporley High Schools, to improve our children’s chances of transfer to their preferred senior school. I am a passionate believer that the voice of the ‘parent’ must be and is best represented by an elected parent governor and I look forward to handing over to a newly elected parent in January 2018.

Mrs Val Cotterill

I became a co-opted governor at Whitegate in 2015 following my retirement from primary education and my term of office as a governor is for four years ending in 2019. I am chairperson of the Curriculum committee and am linked to the Foundation and Early Years classes.

I worked for over 30 years as a primary school teacher, starting my career at Whitegate School. I went on to become a head teacher, first in a small rural school and then in a larger urban school. For the four years I was Chair of the Cheshire Association of Primary Head teachers.

I have lived in Whitegate since I was three and was married at St Mary’s. I love to spend time with my family and friends and enjoy volunteering at Station House Café and for The Joshua Tree, a charity based in Northwich. I’m a member of Whitegate and Marton Parish Council and secretary for Whitegate Recreation Room. I enjoy the Arts, reading, sewing and ‘creating’ in my pottery workshop. I play an accordion in a folk dance band and enjoy playing at many events including weddings and birthday parties.

Family is very important to me and the photograph was taken recently on an evening visit to a beautiful village in France. With me are my husband, Dave, my daughter, Hannah, and my grandson, William. Dave and I love to travel around Britain and Europe in our motorhome and have visited many wonderful places.

I thoroughly enjoyed my career in primary education and remain passionate about offering an inspiring and challenging curriculum and environment to all children to ensure they become the best they can be. I am delighted to be able to offer my skills and experiences to support the school.
