In Maple class, we build on the firm foundations that have been laid in Acorns and continue to help all the children grow, not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. The children grow in wisdom through always striving to make wise choices, reflecting our Christian values and through the accessing a broad and balanced curriculum. In Maple we have many opportunities to shine whether it be in our day to day learning, performances, class trips or welcoming visitors to our class.
This term we are on a voyage of discovery 'Through Castles and Homes'.
Our focus text in English is Rapunzel. Using this book we will be retelling the Traditional Tale Narrative and writing instructions.
In Maths we will begin by developing our understanding of number and place value up to 100 and later in the term, begin to expand our knowledge of Multiplication, Division and Money.
In Geography and History the children will be using maps and atlases to locate and name the countries in the United Kingdom and learning about how homes have changed over time. We will be learning about plants in Science and will get the opportunity to carry out some coding in Computing through using the Bee-Bots.
Reading continues plays a fundamental part in all areas of the curriculum. In class we have access to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books which we are able to use not only within our Guided Reading sessions, but also when appropriate in our curriculum lessons to support our learning. Each term we have a spotlight author who has been chosen for their high-quality texts. Over the course of the term we will have to opportunity to listen to, read and learn more about these fantastic authors. This half term our spotlight author is Rob Biddulph. Having this literacy-rich enviroment will encourage a positive culture of reading within our class and promote the children's enjoyment of reading.
Please ensure your child reads at home at least 5 times per week. In Year 1, we expect the children to be reading aloud to someone at home and for this to be recorded in their Home – School contact books.
