World Space Week
World Space Week takes place from Tuesday 4th October to Monday 10th October. The week celebrates the advances in space science around the world and the ways it has improved our lives. The children will be learning about Neil Armstrong landing on the moon in 1969 and Tim Peake's recent experience of living in the International Space Station for six months from 15th December 2015 -18th June 2016. They have seen a Sokol space suit at school and learned what it is used for. The Sokol space suit, also known as the Sokol IVA suit or simply the Sokol (Russian for Falcon), is a type of Russian space suit, worn by all who fly on the soyuz spacecraft. It was introduced in 1973 and is still used as of 2016. The Sokol is described by its makers as a rescue suit. It is not capable of being used outside the spacecraft in a spacewalk or extra-vehicular activity. Instead, its purpose is to keep the wearer alive in the event of an accidental depressurisation of the spacecraft.
In science the children will be learning about the solar system. We will use songs and video clips to enhance their learning.
