Healthy School
Our Healthy School Promise
At our school, we are committed to helping every child develop healthy habits, enjoy being active and feel happy and confident about their health and wellbeing.
We believe that being healthy is about more than just food and exercise. It includes looking after our physical health, emotional wellbeing, oral health and developing positive habits that can last a lifetime.
Our commitment to healthy eating
We encourage children to make healthy choices and develop a positive relationship with food. Through our curriculum, school meals, snacks, events and wider school activities, we promote the importance of a balanced and varied diet.
We are proud to support the Get Cheshire Eating Well approach and recognise the importance of creating healthy environments for children and families.
Local data highlights why this is important. The latest National Child Measurement Programme (2023–24) shows that across Cheshire West and Chester:
- 23.0% of Reception children are overweight or living with obesity.
- 36.4% of Year 6 children are overweight or living with obesity.
- 25.8% of five-year-olds have visible dental decay.
We use this information to help us promote healthy choices in a positive, supportive and non-stigmatising way. We want every child to understand how small, healthy choices can contribute to their wellbeing.
Our commitment to being active
We believe that every child should have opportunities to be active, enjoy sport and discover activities that they can continue throughout their lives.
We are proud to have achieved the School Games Gold Award and are working towards achieving Platinum. We hope that 2027 will be our fifth consecutive year achieving Gold, demonstrating our continued commitment to providing high-quality opportunities for children to participate, compete, lead and enjoy physical activity.
We also support the aims of Get Cheshire West Moving, helping children to be active throughout the school day through PE, active play, clubs, competitions, active travel and opportunities to be physically active in different ways.
Local data shows that 55.6% of children and young people in Cheshire West and Chester are active for 60 minutes or more each day, in line with the Chief Medical Officer's guidelines (2021–22).
Our aim is to help increase opportunities for all children to move more, be active and find activities that they enjoy.
